ASC-Certified Responsible Farming

Zeelandia van Belzen is certified according to the Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC) and offers a comprehensive range of high-quality products from ASC-certified fish farms.

What is the ASC?

In 2010, the World Wildlife Federation and the IDH (the sustainable trade initiative of the Netherlands) founded the Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC) as an independent, non-profit organisation to work on a global scale.

The ASC manages the world’s leading certification and labelling programme for fish and seafood raised in responsible aquaculture. The main task of the ASC is to set the global standards for responsible aquaculture developed within the WWF Aquaculture Dialogues:

  • Recognise and reward responsible aquaculture through the ASC aquaculture certification programme and seafood label.
  • Promote best environmental and social choice when buying seafood.
  • Contribute to transforming seafood markets towards sustainability.

Changing Global Markets

Changing Global Markets

Together with its partners, the ASC runs an ambitious programme to transform the world's seafood markets and promote the best environmental and social aquaculture performance. The goal is to increase the availability of certified products from responsible aquaculture operations and promote the use of the ASC label. The ASC seal sends a clear message to consumers about the environmental friendliness and social integrity of the products they are purchasing.

Making real change

The ASC is much more than just a board that sets standards. Its market-based approach is actively transforming the aquaculture industry.

The ASC is an independent, international non-profit organisation. To achieve its goals, the ASC programme is:

Credible:
ASC standards are developed and implemented according to ISEAL guidelines – multi-stakeholder, transparent, incorporating science-based performance metrics.

Effective:
The programme promotes industry best practice to minimise the environmental and social footprint of commercial aquaculture.

Added value:
The ASC seal for consumers promotes responsible action, connecting fish farmers to the marketplace.
